Ask most podcasting mentors what they teach and the answer follows a familiar shape: storytelling, interview technique, audio quality. Greg Soros teaches all of that and then keeps going into territory most programs leave out entirely.

The Austin-based podcaster and Podcraft Media Lab founder runs a mentorship initiative through the Podcast Academy’s diversity fellowship program, focused on creators from underrepresented communities. What separates his approach is the deliberate pairing of creative instruction with business training.

The Full Curriculum

Mentees under Soros work through sound design and narrative structure, but they also learn how to pitch advertisers, negotiate distribution agreements, and construct revenue models that survive past the excitement of a launch. Greg Soros draws on his background at Berklee College of Music and years inside major podcasting studios to teach both sides simultaneously.

“Most mentorship programs focus on creative development, which is important but incomplete,” he has said. “We also teach the business fundamentals how to pitch to advertisers, negotiate distribution agreements, and build sustainable revenue models. That’s what transforms a hobby into a career.”

His industry network is also part of what mentees receive. Soros connects creators with potential sponsors, distributors, and collaborators introductions that would otherwise take years to build independently.

What the Results Show

Three shows from his mentees achieved six-figure downloads within their first year. Several others landed major distribution deals. Maria Rodriguez, creator of the award-winning investigative podcast “Border Stories,” said Soros’s program delivered something rare: real business acumen alongside craft development.

The approach has drawn enough attention that competing podcast networks are now building similar programs. For Greg Soros, podcaster and mentor, this industry shift confirms that the fuller model of mentorship was always what the medium was missing. Read this article for additional information.
