The Evolution Of The Trabuco
Trabuco is a war machine used during the Middle Ages and looks similar to a catapult. The Trabuco was first encountered in China before the Europeans used it during the time of the Crusades. The siege weapon crushed enemies’ walls or threw projectiles over the walls. However, not only rocks were thrown over. In some biochemical attacks, attackers threw infected bodies to infect the defense. Other ammo included Horses, cows, and manure.
Trabuco works by converting gravitational potential energy into kinetic, sound and heat energy. Usually, the energy that is put in is the same as the output energy. Depending on the size of the machine to be built, it takes approximately twelve days to be complete. Trabuco did not start as effective as the latest version according to pt.bab.la. It took some more innovation to be able to give them their desired outcome.
according to priberam.pt, the tensile Trabuco threw one hundred and forty pound stones at eighty meters. In a minute, the weapon was able to throw four shots. The tensile requires two hundred and fifty people to operate, and because of this fact, the attackers thought it wise to improve it. It was hard to manage a large group of people and get them to use the same strength in each pull.
In the eleventh century, the Arabs merchants refined the tensile to hybrid Trabuco. They added more weight to the shorthand, and at some point, the hybrid was able to throw four hundred pounds of stones. Improved accuracy was also an added advantage to the Trabuco. With more improvement, the Trabuco threw up to a ton by the thirteenth century.
Despite Trabuco being a fearful weapon, the invention of gunpowder took them out of the war business. Gunpowder started being considered more powerful and dangerous. Currently, the Trabuco helps teachers explain the mechanism in physics. Some Trabucos are in museums to teach people about the history of the war machines based on pt.wikipedia.org. There are also championships that use the Trabuco, but instead of stones, they throw pumpkins. Trabuco is a great item to show how throughout the years, inventions have become better and improved.
